Black women are still the fastest-growing segment of entrepreneurs, but you wouldn’t know that because Black women are still often left out in the cold when it comes to capital.
As you may recall in the #ProjectDiane report, of all venture deals from 2012 to 2014, only 0.2% (24 of 10,238 deals) went to black female founders.
In the world where the “Future is Female”, I want to see more female founders creating impactful businesses, and getting the financial support they need. For this reason and many more is why I’m excited to hear about more programs and platforms designed to support and educate female founders.
Recently, Tory Burch announced that they are expanding their fellows programs to accept 50 women entrepreneurs (the previous cohort size was just 10). The 50 female founders will be chosen for a 4 day workshop at the Tory Burch Offices and will receive grant money, access to an amazing network of founders and investors, and the chance to pitch investors.
Since launching the Fellows Program in 2015, Tory Burch has provided over half a million dollars in grants to women entrepreneurs in diverse industries.
This is an incredible opportunity that all serious female entrepreneurs should take advantage of and apply before the deadline ends. If you call yourself a serious founder, you shouldn’t wait for the “perfect” opportunity; instead you should take advantage of all opportunities head on and give them your best. Remember sis, there will never be the “perfect” moment so just do it.
Applications for the fellowship are open now and close on March 12th, 2019.
