Side Hustlers: Before you quit your job, read this!

Questions to ask yourself before quitting your day job.

What should you do when you have a brilliant idea or a side hustle that is trending in an extremely positive direction? Quit your job and go hard to turn your side hustle into your day job. Right? If you are thinking about a writing that letter of resignation, read this first! Here are three questions you should ask yourself before pursuing your side hustle full time.

Do I need my job to survive?

Before you finish that resignation letter take some time to think about your life. Do you have a mortgage? A car payment? A family to support? What are the things you need to take care of to have a good life? There is nothing at all wrong with becoming an entrepreneur or pursuing your passion but you have to be realistic. There is nothing impressive about going to bed hungry so you can tweet about it five years later. Remember that the goal will always be the goal. The way the process looks is up to you.

Can I build my schedule around my hustle?

After some thought you may realize that you do need your day job. So what should you do? The answer is more simple than the work it takes, but simple nonetheless. Change your schedule. Instead of waking up at seven to get ready for work, wake up at five and get two hours of work in. Instead of going to sleep at ten, go to sleep at midnight. Reserve a good chunk of your Saturday or Sunday to get some work done. Be smart about how and when you work and you will be surprised at the progress you can make without quitting your job!

What hindrance is in my way?

To accurately change your schedule you may have to do some things differently or get rid of some things that normally take up your time. That video game system may need to go into the closet for a while. Maybe you need to sell it on ebay. You may not be able to watch Game of Thrones without your laptop in front of you. Figuring out how much leisure you need is key to maximizing your schedule and the work you can do within it.

Bottom line

The only thing in between where you are and where you want to be is work. That’s it. That is all there has ever been. Once you accept that, it will be much easier for you to redesign your life to accomplish your goals and live your dreams. This doesn’t always mean you need to quit your day job.
